War Memorial – 40 Mukte The War Memorial of the 40 Mukte is an important historical and religious site in Sri Muktsar Sahib, Punjab. It commemorates the forty Sikh warriors who sacrificed their lives while fighting bravely against the Mughal forces in the Battle of Muktsar in 1705. These forty warriors had earlier left the company of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, but later returned to defend him and his followers. They fought with great courage and attained martyrdom. Guru Gobind Singh Ji blessed them as “Chali Mukte” (Forty Liberated Ones) because of their supreme sacrifice and devotion. The memorial reminds visitors of the courage, faith, unity, and sacrifice of the forty Mukte. Every year, a large religious gathering is held in Sri Muktsar Sahib during Maghi, attracting devotees from different parts of Punjab and other regions. The site holds great importance in Sikh history and preserves the memory of those who gave their lives for their faith and Guru.
